Heal in Nature Retreat for Physical and Mental Stability & Ease with Joan Hyman at Maruia River Retreat

Reservations open 20 April 2024.

How do we strike the balance between doing too much and straining, and doing too little and feeling like we’re not trying hard enough? These are the concepts of Sthira and Sukha in order to find balance.

Join Joan Hyman in a five-night immersive personal retreat experience and explore how to cultivate the opposites of Sthira Sukha, and balance stability with ease. Learn what it feels like to cultivate physical stability and strength on and off the mat and how that can reflect in your mental state as you anchor your mind into the body. Each day will open up with a two-hour asana practice, exploring your edges and also understanding when to back off. Sukha helps us soften and cultivate a sense of ease in the body and mind. This happens when we are reminded to breathe and slow down.

We will explore many pranayama techniques which help us anchor the mind into the body and regulate our nervous system. A balanced nervous system is the key to health and well-being. When we are calm, we elicit the healing state known as rest and digest, helping us to feel balanced and relaxed physically and mentally. This is where true healing can occur..

Joan will discuss the physical aspect of the postures and how we can use specific alignment cues and the use of props and modifications to feel stable in the pose. We will unpack the complexity of the nervous system and explore not only pranayama practices but restoratives to help us understand how to cultivate deep relaxation, through the practice of breathing and learning to just be.

When we feel stable in the body it is easier to cultivate a calm and clear mental state.  We will learn through the science of yoga, how to cultivate different practices to help us manage a busy and at times stressful world and connect to a centered and grounded place within.

Join Joan on this 6-day personal and introspective journey in an exquisite setting at Maruia River Retreat to find more effort and ease in your practice and daily life!
